ADVANCED CLIMBING / ROPES COURSE INSTRUCTOR

Requirements:

  • Have a degree/diploma/certification in Outdoor Education which includes a climbing/ropes course component or an equivalent with 1 year climbing, belaying and/or ropes course experience;
  • Provide footage of your skills in your CCUSA introduction video;
  • A desire to teach children in a fun, encouraging and safe manner.

ELITE CLIMBING / ROPES COURSE INSTRUCTOR

Requirements:

  • Be 21 years or older;
  • Have all the above Advanced skills requirements plus four years of experience in teaching/leading climbing and ropes courses (low and high);
  • Have the ability to demonstrate these skills:
    • The setting up of safe and efficient top rope and abseil teaching systems using a variety of belays and sites;
    • Methods for conducting students safely and efficiently on single and multi-pitch climbs;
    • Self-rescue techniques and good emergency situation responses;
    • Site choice in relation to safety, environmental factors and outcome for the participant;
    • Teaching techniques and group management issues;
    • Vertical mobility via ascending and descending ropes;
    • Course and equipment maintenance and safety checks;
    • Environmental and land management concerns.
